Katarina Wit began skating at five. She was able to prove her skills and get into the Karl-Marx-Stadt special school specifically designed for gifted kids. It was here that she met her coach Jutta Muller. Witt was able to make her mark in 1982, after she placed second in her first World Championships at Copenhagen. After that, she began winning the competition with elegance and grace. Olympic triumph at the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the female gold medal in figure skating following a close-fought competition. After four years, the event, she was able to take home an even competitive race. In fact, she did not win the free-skating contest, but won gold based on performance during the mandatory short and figure programme. Witt became the first female repeated winner of figure skating after Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt was able to return to skating after her success as a film actor. Witt competed at the Lillehammer Winter Games, 1994. Though she failed to get a single medal she delighted fans with the fact that she finished seventh. Witt got her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1995.
